2026 Acura ADX or RDX: which SUV fits you?

ADX and RDX both seat five, but they solve the job differently. ADX prioritizes a compact footprint, available AWD, and an approachable three-package range. RDX is larger, more powerful, and standard with torque-vectoring SH-AWD.

The direct comparison

ADX and RDX solve different versions of a five-seat SUV

ADX wins on compact size and entry price. RDX wins on power, standard SH-AWD, and cabin room. Package equipment can overlap, so choose the vehicle before the package.

Smaller is the benefit

Most trips carry one or two people, parking is tight, and you would rather spend on useful equipment than extra size.

The power and room are worth it

Five seats are still enough, but you want 82 more horsepower, a 10-speed automatic, and standard SH-AWD.

Size is the first honest dividing line

ADX is Acura’s smallest SUV. It is easier to place in a tight parking space and may be all the cabin a one- or two-person household needs. RDX is a larger two-row SUV with more room to stretch out and carry gear, but it also asks you to park and maneuver a larger vehicle.

Set the driver’s seat, sit behind it, then load the cargo area. Do not compare published maximums in isolation. The shape of the opening, height of the floor, and way your own gear fits are what make the difference useful.

The powertrains belong to different categories

ADX uses a 190-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard and AWD is available on every package. RDX uses a 272-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, 10-speed automatic, and standard SH-AWD.

That difference shows up in passing response and driving character, not just a horsepower row. SH-AWD can actively distribute torque side to side at the rear; the ADX AWD system is aimed at added traction without turning the smaller SUV into an RDX.

  • Drive both on the same on-ramp and rough pavement
  • Compare turning space and camera coverage in one parking lot
  • Check rear-seat room with the front seats identically positioned
  • Ask about tire type and replacement cost on the exact trim

Equipment can cross over even when the vehicles do not

Top-package ADX A-Spec Advance includes leather, a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen system, parking sensors, and a multi-view camera. RDX Advance adds heated rear seats, a head-up display, surround-view camera, and 16-speaker ELS STUDIO 3D audio.

A well-equipped ADX may therefore have a feature you care about more than a lower RDX package. Decide whether space and power or cabin equipment should win when the budgets overlap. That is the part a side-by-side test makes clear.
